Through the work of ECFA and our partners we use football as a tool to provide an extensive range of opportunities for students and staff to develop their leadership skills and other associated transferable skills through volunteering.

The ECFA works with The Football Association, AoC Sport and a number of national partners to ensure there is a range of training courses, projects, programmes, and activities where students and staff can develop leadership and volunteering skills.

Football Futures

Football Futures is the brand name for the FA’s young leadership & volunteering programme.The programme provides a progressive pathway for young leaders in order to help them develop into a skilled football workforce and a wide range of benefits and opportunities can be accessed across six themes.

Student Management Teams

Student Management Team (SMT’s) are groups of students who have been selected (through application and/or interview) to take ownership of the college’s TEAM19 programme or wider football provision within the college. It is one of the fastest growing development programmes in the sector and hundreds of students are involved.

Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football (QCF)

Awarded by: 1st4sport Qualifications, The Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football (QCF) is a  qualification that will enable young people to develop Leadership skills through supporting the development of grass-roots football. Learners completing the qualification will be introduced to a number of leadership roles including:

  • Leading Football Activity Sessions
  • Refereeing Small-sided Games
  • Working with Small-sided Teams in Football
  • Contributing to the Organisation and Delivery of a Football Event for Young People.

 

The course is for anyone between the ages of 14 and 19 years of age who are interested in developing leadership skills and would like an introduction to volunteering or a possible career in the sports industry. The course provides the ideal qualification for those who are interested in: Coaching, Refereeing, Sports Administration, Helping to run a Junior Football Team, Sport Development or Volunteering.

The qualification is a Level 2 Award worth 10 Credits and sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). It has also been accredited to be delivered as part of the Additional and Specialist Learning section of the new Sport and Active Leisure Diploma. The recommended guided delivery hours range from 62-100 hours, depending upon the learners needs.
